CERAMIC PUBLIC ART PROJECT

Create a vibrant and interesting public space with a ceramic public art project.

We can help you plan, implement and deliver a ceramic public art project, or try one of our pre-tested projects. 

Our tutors have extensive experience as artists in residence in a range of educational and community settings.

Ceramic public art projects can::

  • enhance public spaces
  • showcase artistic skills and talents of a group
  • create a sense of engagement with public spaces
  • create a sense of community

There are several ways we can help:

1. CONSULTATION SERVICE

Consultation with an expert to help you work out your project at your workplace (Melbourne Metro area only) is $100 + GST per hour. Or come to us for an onsite consultation for $80 + GST per hour. Areas of discussion include: theme/topic, timeline, materials, safety, storage, firing, installation

 

2. TERRACOTTA TILE WALL PANEL

This ceramic project incorporates slip decoration and scraffito techniques on a panel of terracotta tiles. Your group will design the motif, make the tiles and then decorate them. 

Cost will depend on size of panel, however as a guide a 1metre square mural comprising 100 tiles (10x10cm each) will cost approximately $880, this includes clay, slip, glazes, firing (at Northcote Pottery Supplies) and a tutor for one day, but does not include installation.

 

3. MOSAIC WALL MURAL WITH CERAMIC FEATURES

If you're thinking big we can facilitate a public art project. The project is a mosaic wall mural with ceramic features. It is constructed of pre-made tiles combined with ceramic elements created by your students. The cost will vary depending on how much time is needed for the workshops and to make the mosaic, however as an example, here are some costs to consider:

Labour:

$300 + GST per 6 hour day (or $75 + GST per hour) to conduct the workshops, mosaic & grout the wall.

Materials:

Clay $10 per bag

Underglazes $150-$300

Glaze $25-$50

Firing (two firings bisque and glaze) $11 per kilo, transport $3 per kilo

Grout and tile adhesive $25 per metre

Tiles - bright colours $20 - $60 per metre

 

4. INDEPENDENT PROJECT
