NoFire Clay

CHARACTERISTICS OF NOFIRE CLAY

NoFire.jpg

NOFIRE CLAY IS A WATER-BASED, AIR-DRYING MODELLING CLAY primarily used for modelling and sculpting.

NOFIRE CLAY DOESN’T NEED A KILN TO HARDEN .

NOFIRE CLAY COMES IN 3 CONVENIENT SIZES: 2.2 LITRE (INDIVIDUAL SIZE), 4.0 LITRE (FAMILY SIZE), AND 10.0 LITRE (CLASSROOM SIZE) which makes economical sense for all sorts of practitioners. Nofire Clay has a longer shelf life because the container is sturdy and better sealed than other products which are traditionally plastic-wrapped or sealed in foil. Nofire Clay can be returned to the bucket after use. Simply add a moist sponge to enhance the moisture level in the bucket and your clay can be reused at a later date.

NOFIRE CLAY IS SUPPLIED IN INDIVIDUAL PUGS (BILLETS) INSIDE THE RESEALABLE BUCKET for easy removal and distribution - no sticking to the walls of the bucket or having to scoop clay out with hands/tools. You can cut the pugs or billets up for distribution with a pottery cutting wire.

NOFIRE CLAY IS WHITE, creating an ideal background for decoration.

WHEN DRY, NOFIRE CLAY CAN BE FINISHED WITH ANY ACRYLIC (WATER-BASED) PAINT.

TIPS FOR USING NOFIRE CLAY

It is advisable to WEAR AN APRON or art smock when working with NOFIRE CLAY, and have an old towel for wiping hands.

PREPARE YOUR WORK AREA BEFORE COMMENCING – lay down a sheet of newspaper or work board to create an absorbent surface.

ORGANISE A RANGE OF TOOLS – wooden or metal pottery/modelling tools, wooden skewers/ice cream sticks, toothpicks, plastic kitchen cutlery, biscuit cutters, sponges etc.

DON'T MAKE YOUR PIECE THICKER THAN 1.5CM OR THINNER THAN 0.5CM in any area.

MAKE JOINS BY MOISTENING THE TWO SURFACES TO BE JOINED WITH A LITTLE WATER, SCRATCH UP THE SURFACE WITH A PLASTIC FORK OR TOOTHBRUSH, PUSH THE TWO SURFACES TOGETHER, THEN DRY SLOWLY. Or push the two pieces to be joined together, make a thin coil which is wrapped around the join area and smooth across the coil to join it into the final shape. Alternately, you could use a small spatula type tool to smear the clay instead of your finger. Dry the piece slowly after joining.

Once your piece is dry (1-2 WEEKS) you can leave it undecorated or PAINT IT WITH WATER-BASED ACRYLIC PAINT. Use a soft brush for best paint effects.

Once your paint work is dry (ALLOW 24 HOURS) you can SEAL THE PIECE WITH A WATER-BASED ACRYLIC SEALER (OPTIONAL) to give it a glossy finish.

NEVER USE NOFIRE CLAY TO MAKE OUTDOOR PIECES, FORMS THAT ARE USED FOR TABLEWARE OR INTENDED TO HOLD LIQUID
